More tax stamps are produced every year than any other security printed item except banknotes. Known by a variety of names (excise stamps, duty stamps, tax seals, banderols), these are the 'weapon of choice' for many governments around the world to secure the valuable revenue derived from customs and excise duty on tobacco and alcohol, acting both as a record of payment and a barrier to the distribution of counterfeit products.
And yet ...... up until 2007, there had never been an authoritative report on the subject - despite the opportunities that tax stamps provide for governments in collecting revenues, and for suppliers in providing these governments with the necessary tools to do so.
Reconnaissance International addressed this with the publication of Tax Stamps: a Technical Study and Market Report - the first study of its kind to examine and analyse the evolution and implementation of tax stamp regimes around the world.
And now, four years on, the 2nd edition is underway. Due for publication in late 2011, this will build on the 1st report while covering the many developmetns that have taken place over the last four years in this rapidly-developing and complex market.
